Onyxcoin (XCN) serves as the native utility and governance token for the Onyx Protocol, a blockchain-based cloud infrastructure designed to enable organizations to build advanced financial services. The tokenomics of XCN are structured to promote decentralized governance, transparency, and long-term value preservation through controlled supply mechanisms and community involvement.

Issuance and Supply Mechanism

The total supply of Onyxcoin has undergone significant management to ensure a sustainable economic model. Originally, the supply was much higher, but it has since been reduced to a maximum supply of 48,470,523,779 XCN.

As of early 2025, the circulating supply stands at approximately 26.65 billion XCN. The issuance and circulation are managed through a combination of initial distributions and controlled releases from the project's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).

Allocation Mechanism

The distribution of XCN was designed to seed the network with a broad base of users while maintaining a significant reserve for future development and governance. The primary allocations are as follows:

• Initial Distribution: Tokens were initially distributed to non-US and non-sanctioned users through airdrop programs to encourage early adoption and decentralization.
• Onyx DAO Control: The Onyx DAO maintains control over approximately 25 billion XCN.
• DAO Treasury: Within the DAO's holdings, 10 billion XCN are specifically allocated to the DAO Treasury to fund ecosystem growth, grants, and operational requirements.
• Time-Locked Reserve: The remaining 15 billion XCN held by the DAO are subject to a controlled release schedule.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

XCN is deeply integrated into the Onyx ecosystem, providing several core functions that incentivize participation and secure the network:

• Governance: XCN holders have the right to vote on protocol improvements and proposed changes to the network. This creates a sense of ownership and allows the community to influence the protocol's roadmap.
• Payment for Services: The token is used to pay for services across the Onyx Protocol ecosystem, including accessing blockchain networks and storing data on global server networks.

Locking Mechanism and Unlocking Time

To prevent market supply shocks and ensure the long-term commitment of the protocol's resources, Onyxcoin employs a time-locked smart contract for its largest reserve.

The controlled release of the 15 billion XCN tokens is intended to ensure "trustworthy inflation," where the entry of new tokens into the circulating supply is predictable and aligned with the long-term growth of the ecosystem. While specific monthly unlock dates for the entirety of the supply are subject to the evolution of the project and community needs, the use of smart contracts ensures that these funds cannot be moved or sold prematurely, providing a layer of security and transparency for token holders.
