Real Madrid Pushes For Vinicius Contract Renewal After Alonso Firing

Real Madrid is confident that Vinicius Jr. will renew his contract after the dismissal of fired head coach Xabi Alonso according to Cadena SER, which cited anonymous sources.

The pair appeared to have a complicated relationship at the Bernabeu, which reached boiling point when Vinicius threw a tantum after a 72nd minute substitution in El Clasico.

Following the 2-1 win over bitter rival FC Barcelona, Vinicius released a statement whereby he apologised to the club, its president Florentino Perez and the fans.

Yet the fact that Alonso’s name was omitted was the main talking point of the correspondence, and there were hints that all still wasn’t well between manager and player.

That being said, Vinicius and Alonso engaged in public shows of affection and there had been praise for the Brazilian from the Spaniard whenever he played well.

In the meantime, though, Vinicius refused to commit to a contract extension beyond 2027, and that was taken as a sign that he was waiting to see how things played out in the dugout.

After embarking on 13 victories in 14 games, Alonso had a strong start to life as the manager of his former playing days club but form dipped post-Clasico.

That triumph put Real Madrid four points clear at the La Liga summit, but a string of losses and draws meant that it closed out the year four points behind arch nemesis Barca as Alonso faced the chopping block.

And though Alonso gained some credit with five wins on the trot, losing the Spanish Super Cup final to the Catalans saw him dismissed and replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa, who has already thought out loud regarding his plans for Vinicius.

Alonso’s firing could mean Vinicius’ stay at Real Madrid

With the Alonso era having come to an end, Madrid is now reportedly confident that Vinicius will sign on the dotted line.

He’ll get the same “level of importance as [Kylian] Mbappe” at the Bernabeu by committing his future to the club, which, given his age of 25, should be his peak if the renewal is until 2031.

At Real Madrid, Vinicius wants to get back to the top of his game and a level which saw him almost win the Ballon d’Or in 2024, while establishing himself as the world’s greatest player after a slight dip.
