BlockDAG announced the completion of a network upgrade on June 15, claiming the blockchain now supports 5,000 transactions per second (TPS), approximately two-second consensus times, and greater scalability for future applications.
The announcement took place in a post on X, describing it as a major infrastructure milestone for the project’s next phase of growth. According to the post, the upgraded network is designed to support gaming, sportsbook transactions, lending, borrowing, payments, stablecoins, and decentralized applications.
The upgrade also coincided with renewed promotion of the project's Direct Swap and buyback program. BlockDAG said users can purchase BDAG on its platform for $0.00000044, while eligible participants can sell via the buyback mechanism for $0.05.
The announcement comes several months after BlockDAG launched its mainnet. In a February 2026 press release, the company described the network as a "5,000 TPS Mainnet." However, BlockDAG's June 15 announcement stated that a completed chain upgrade had made 5,000 TPS live, leaving it unclear how the latest claim differs from the throughput level previously promoted by the project.
