Main Event: Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Erickson Lubin

The headliner pits Ortiz Jr., fighting in his home state of Texas, against the experienced Lubin in a junior middleweight clash that carries significant championship implications. The 154-pound division has become the newest glamour weight class in boxing. In addition to Ortiz Jr. and Ennis, world champion Sebastian Fundora, Keith Thurman and others are lingering with the chance to make a serious splash over the next year.

Reports indicate Ennis and his promoter Eddie Hearn will be present in Texas on Saturday night. The plans are for Ennis to climb into the ring and to do a stareoff with the winner.

The hope–at least from Hearn (Matchroom) and Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy) is that Ortiz takes care of business to set up a money fight with Ennis. Lubin could upset the apple cart with an upset.

Ortiz-Lubin Take Center Stage This Weekend

The Ortiz-Lubin fight is the biggest thing happening in combat sports this weekend. The UFC has another small card on hand, so there will be a good number of eyes on the DAZN card. I’ll have a results piece and breakdown on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
