Google’s Year in Search 2025 reveals listeners as truly enthused hunters when it came to music discovery this year.
The search engine giant’s annual trend report shows that song and lyric lookups skewed toward defining pop-culture superstars like Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, while hum-to-search results captured the year’s viral earworms and soundtrack hits, with KPop Demon Hunter tracks repeatedly breaking through in both text- and audio-search behavior.
Google’s Year in Search lists measure trending searches as queries that increased fastest in interest between January 1 and November 25, 2025, compared with the same period the year before — meaning these lists capture spikes in curiosity rather than traditional search volume so the lists spotlight what was unique to 2025 and not necessarily “most searched.” Year in Search for the United States, used data from Google Trends, Nielsen, and other internal tools.
The top trending Lyrics list from Google’s Year in Search reads like a ranking of the most quotable and talked about songs from the biggest LP releases.
Bad Bunny’s “DtMF,” the abbreviated title track for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS that dropped five days into the year, led global lyric searches, but Taylor Swift placed multiple songs in the Top 10 titles. The Life of a Showgirl cuts covered Nos. 5-8 of trending songs of the year led by “Eldest Daughter” at No. 5, followed by “Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite,” and “Father Figure” at No. 8.
Emerging acts also broke through on a global scale with two 2026 Best New Artist Grammy nominees claiming spots in the worldwide Top 10 with “Ordinary” by newly named Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree Alex Warren taking No. 3 and girl group KATSEYE’s “Gabriela” at No. 4 among this year’s trending lyric searches.
Beyond the aforementioned U.S.-based artists, several international sensations broke into Google’s global lyrics searches this year too. The second-most searched song lyrics globally came from the viral Indonesian song “Tabola Bale” by Silet Open Up (the stage name for Indonesian singer Siprianus Bhuka), whose knack for blending the songs of his East Nusa Tenggara island with hip-hop, R&B and reggaeton delivered massive search interest.
Plus, Chinese Mandopop singer-songwriter and music producer LBI generated global curiosity with his single “跳楼机 (Drop Tower)” after a major television performance in China — all the more impressive when considering Google is not widely available in the country. KPop Demon Hunters’ boy-band sensation Saja Boys scored the year’s 10th-most searched song lyrics with their addictive “Soda Pop” single.
Google’s trend report for the U.S. included an “En Español” (or “In Spanish”) section of Spanish-language searches that included Canciones (Songs) and Letras de Canciones (Song Lyrics).
Naturally, Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” also ranked high here, taking the No. 1 spot for general trending song searches and No. 2 on trending lyric searches for Spanish-language searches. Notably, KPop Demon Hunters’ breakout hit single “Golden” sung by its animated girl group HUNTR/X (consisting of EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna, another new honoree for Forbes 30 Under 30 Music category) was in second place among trending Spanish-language searches surrounded by searches for music by top stars throughout Latin pop and rock, reggaeton, cumbia, urbano, retrobélico, Colombian Andean, regional Mexican music and beyond.
Google’s relatively young “Hum-to-Search” option also reveals the songs that music fans got stuck in their heads and wanted to hear more.
Google’s tools show KDH’s “Golden” by HUNTR/X was the breakout song hummed by fans globally and in the world’s biggest music market, the United States.
Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” also got stuck in music fans’ heads as one of the few songs appearing across the trending lyric searches and hummed songs lists. “Ordinary,” along with Doechii’s “Anxiety” and Ravyn Lenae’s “Love Me Not,” also impacted the global and U.S. hum-to-search lists this year, all demonstrating how viral songs were inspiring listeners to take action to find out more about the songs.
