Total Crypto Open Interest Crashes To June Levels, Will Bitcoin Repeat The Same Trend?

2025/11/21 20:30

Prices across the crypto market have crashed with the recent Bitcoin price decline below $100,000, and other major metrics have followed in accordance. One metric of note that has suffered a notable decline is the crypto market open interest. The total open interest fell sharply back in September, and the decline has been the trend since then. As a result, the crypto market open interest has now fallen to levels not seen in five months.

Crypto Open Interest Dumps Below $140 Billion

Data from the Coinglass website shows that crypto market open interest has declined significantly after hitting an all-time high in early October. The $233 billion peak was recorded on October 7, coinciding with the Bitcoin price also hitting a peak above $126,000. However, the momentum has not held up since then, and as the Bitcoin price has tumbled, the crypto open interest has suffered.

Earlier in the week, the open interest fell below $140 billion for the first time in five months, marking an over 40% crash in the space of one month. The market saw the first major decline following the infamous crash in the crypto market in a matter of hours. By October 12, only 5 days after the all-time high was recorded, the open interest had crashed by more than 25%, reaching $150 billion.

The current decline is a testament to the reduced participation from investors across the market, as crypto traders have taken a more conservative stance through the month of November. Not only has the crypto open interest been gravely impacted, but the daily trading volume has suffered as well.

Just like the open interest, the crypto daily trading volume has recorded a double-digit crash, going from almost $400 billion at the start of October to less than $260 billion at the time of this report. This constitutes an around 35% crash, showing notable similarities to the open interest.

What Happened To Bitcoin The Last Time?

While the rapid decline in the crypto open interest could be a cause for alarm, it is interesting to note what happened to Bitcoin the last time this metric was this low. Looking back to June 2025, when the crypto open interest was last below $140 billion, it essentially was the bottom before the price rallied again.

A bounce following the bottom in June saw the Bitcoin price rise from around $100,000 to $126,000 over the next few months, which translates to a 26% increase. If this trend holds and the bottom is marked with the crypto market open interest below $140 billion, then the Bitcoin price could be gearing up for another rally.

Why The Bitcoin Crash To $85,000 Is Actually Good News: Jeff Park

Why The Bitcoin Crash To $85,000 Is Actually Good News: Jeff Park

With Bitcoin trading around $85,000, Jeff Park, Partner and CIO at ProCap BTC, used his Nov. 20 conversation with Anthony Pompliano to argue that the drop may be valuable for reasons that have little to do with short-term “dip buying” and everything to do with narrative regime change. His central claim is that the classic halving-anchored rhythm is losing its foundation. Why The Bitcoin Crash Is Necessary “The four year cycle is almost definitively over,” Park said, because what it was “based off of historically, which is the halving, is just irrelevant from the additional marginal demand that comes from other channels that have opened up.” In his framing, the market is being pulled into a different cadence: “logically and fundamentally the four-year cycle should no longer exist and a new cycle should emerge that is more in sync with institutional risk capital appetite.” Related Reading: Is The Bitcoin Bottom In? Fidelity Research Lead Weighs The Odds Park is careful not to treat that as a clean break, because beliefs still move prices. He stressed that a large legacy cohort continues to trade as if the four-year script is real. “There is still a big group of investors that believe it should exist,” he said, describing them as early adopters with “characteristics that almost feel like the occult where they have prophecies.” The key, in his view, is their supply control: “the biggest Bitcoin holders in wallets that are 10,000 [BTC] and plus in size still control a good chunk of the market […] they are still a third of the Bitcoin market.” That concentration makes the cycle potentially reflexive: “if a third of the Bitcoin holders believe the four-year cycle is true and they act like the four-year cycle is true, well then it doesn’t really matter because they’re the price setters […] these things can be self-fulfilling.” From there, Park pivots to why weakness into year-end could be constructive. He noted that Bitcoin is now “below year to date […] in 2025,” raising the prospect of a red close. In a deliberately sharp line, he joked that if 2025 ends negative, “that breaks the four-year cycle because now we have a red [yearly candle] and so it’s a three-year cycle.” Related Reading: Why Bitwise Thinks Bitcoin Still Hits $200,000 In 2026 The humor masks a strategic preference: “maybe we do need this red [candle] right now so we could have the ability to unleash the super cycle for Bitcoin to come without ever having to talk about the four-year cycle again.” Park framed a marginally green close as the worst of both worlds. “The last thing I want honestly is […] an up 5% year to 2025 where we close at like $98K or $99K or $100K and that counts as a green year,” he said, because then “the next year everyone’s going to talk about […] this is the down year now,” leaving 2026 under the “harrowing weight over your head that we’re actually going to have another down year.” Pompliano pressed the obvious counter-scenario: “Is there a world where it could just kind of rip right back […] and go to $140,000 or something?” Park didn’t rule it out. “It’s absolutely possible. Anything can happen,” he replied. But he summarized the trade-off starkly: “we either have to hope for […] that it either goes up a lot to make the year count or we just try to notch in a small loss here for the year so we can just wipe out the four-year cycle altogether.” For Park, Bitcoin at $85,000 is “good news” only insofar as it increases the odds of breaking a self-reinforcing calendar myth, clearing the way for a market driven less by halving folklore and more by institutional risk cycles. At press time, BTC traded at $84,469. Featured image created with DALL.E, chart from TradingView.com

Reforming Agriculture From The Ground Up

Reforming Agriculture From The Ground Up

The post Reforming Agriculture From The Ground Up appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Heathy soil from regenerative agriculture field getty American agriculture is at an inflection point. Despite producing an abundance of food, most U.S. farm households lose money on farming in a typical year and rely on off-farm jobs to stay afloat; the USDA estimates median farm income was negative in both 2023 and 2024. At the same time, biodiversity warnings are flashing red. Recent assessments find more than one-fifth of North America’s pollinators—and roughly a third of its native bees—face elevated extinction risk, jeopardizing the ecological services our food system depends on. “If we wipe out our pollinators,” says Elizabeth Whitlow, founding executive director and now board member of the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA), “we’re going to be pretty hungry.” Whitlow helped launch the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) standard in 2018 to tackle these intertwined crises—soil degradation, animal welfare concerns, and farmworker precarity—without pretending that any single silver bullet exists. “The goals of the program,” she explains, “are to increase soil organic matter over time, sequester carbon in the soil, ensure ethical, humane treatment of animals, and provide fair conditions for farmers and farmworkers.” ROC’s point of departure is deliberate: “We always require organic as our baseline… we’re building on 40 years of stakeholder input to arrive at an agreed upon federal standard for organic.” That baseline matters because “regenerative” remains undefined in many markets; ROC attempts to anchor the term in measurable practices through third party accredited audits rather than romance or fluffy marketing copy. Industry adoption is no longer fringe: ROA and independent reports put certified or enrolled acreage above 18 million and climbing, with hundreds of brands bringing ROC ingredients into food, textiles, and personal care. A core differentiator, Whitlow argues, is that ROC “thinks about the humans and every living being in a very systemic, holistic way.”…
