Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy faced backlash for making politically charged remarks during a warm-up speech at President Donald Trump's Great American State Fair on the National Mall on Wednesday.
While praising the Marine Band and performers Lee Greenwood, Christopher Macchio, and Alexis Wilkins, Duffy insulted musicians who canceled their appearances, saying, "Way better than those libt--ds that canceled on us."

The comment drew swift criticism on social media from observers who noted the remark undermined claims that the event was nonpartisan and justified performers' decision to withdraw.
Country star Martina McBride, The Commodores, Milli Vanilli, rapper Young MC, and Poison frontman Bret Michaels were among those who canceled.
Critics questioned Duffy's qualifications for his cabinet position and called his language inappropriate for a high-ranking official.
"Sean Duffy is unqualified for his job, and has spent more of his time doing reality TV than protecting Americans," wrote political scientist Norm Ornstein.
