KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and national men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong have mutually agreed to part ways, effective June 30.

In a statement today, BAM said the decision was reached following discussions between the parties, with BAM and Tze Yong agreeing that the move would be in the player’s best interests as he charts the next phase of his professional badminton career.

BAM president Tengku Zafrul Aziz thanked Tze Yong for his contributions throughout his time with the national body.

“Tze Yong has been an important member of the national team and has represented Malaysia with pride on the international stage. While injuries unfortunately disrupted his progress in recent years, his resilience throughout the rehabilitation process has been commendable.

“After in-depth discussions, both parties agreed that this is the best path forward at this stage of his career. On behalf of BAM, I would like to thank Tze Yong for his contributions to Malaysian badminton and wish him good health and continued success in his future endeavours,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Tze Yong expressed his appreciation to BAM, the coaches, support staff and teammates who had supported him throughout his journey with the national team.

“I would like to thank BAM for the opportunities, guidance and support I have received over the years. Representing Malaysia has always been an honour, and I am grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey.

“For now, my priority is to fully recover and regain my fitness. I will take some time away from competition to focus on my rehabilitation before returning to the court, and I look forward to the next chapter of my career,” he said.

The 26-year-old reached a career-high world ranking of No 14 in November 2023 and enjoyed several notable achievements with the national team, including winning the men’s singles silver medal and mixed team gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

He also won gold at the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships and bronze medals at the 2021 Sudirman Cup and 2023 Sudirman Cup.

However, his progress in recent years had been affected by a series of injuries, including a back injury in 2024 and an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury in 2025, both of which required surgery and lengthy rehabilitation.
