S$2 pass is on its way out — Malaysian taxis to pay S$15 every trip into Singapore from Jan 1

SINGAPORE, June 25 — The S$2 (RM6) monthly pass for Malaysian taxis entering Singapore is on its way out.

From January 1, 2027, Malaysia-registered taxis will instead have to pay S$15 (RM50) every time they enter Singapore, under a revised fee structure announced by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) today.

According to LTA, the change is intended to narrow the operating cost gap between Malaysian taxis providing cross-border services and Singapore-registered taxis.

The authority currently issues Public Service Vehicle Licences (PSVLs) and Asean Public Service Vehicle Permits (PSVPs) to Malaysian taxis authorised to operate between the two countries. 

Only taxis holding both valid permits are allowed to provide cross-border services.

The revised charging model follows changes introduced on May 4 that significantly expanded cross-border taxi operations. 

Under the new framework, licensed taxis can now drop passengers off anywhere in Singapore and across Johor, while more designated pick-up points have also been added on both sides of the Causeway.

LTA also reminded commuters to use only licensed cross-border taxis, warning that unlicensed vehicles may not have valid insurance coverage, potentially leaving passengers without protection or recourse if they are involved in an accident.

The authority said it would continue cracking down on illegal point-to-point transport services to protect commuters and the livelihoods of licensed taxi drivers.

Its enforcement officers caught 14 people during operations against illegal cross-border transport services in May.
