KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Malaysia’s first female surveyor has posthumously saved and transformed the lives of at least five people through organ donation, in a final act of generosity that is being hailed as an inspiration to others.
In a Facebook post, Hospital Sungai Buloh paid tribute to 72-year-old Hajjah Normah Abdullah by according her a Walk of Honour in recognition of her selfless organ and tissue donation.
“Her noble commitment as a registered organ donor was ultimately fulfilled by her beloved children, who honoured her wishes after she was declared brain dead.
“On June 21, her final act of generosity became a reality.
“Through this gift of life, the organs and tissues she donated are expected to save and transform the lives of at least five patients,” the hospital said.
Hospital Sungai Buloh also said the organ procurement marked a new milestone in the close collaboration between the Health Ministry (MOH) and the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE).
It added that the hospital was honoured to work alongside Universiti Malaya’s Hepatobiliary Surgery Team, whose expertise and commitment were instrumental in making the life-saving effort possible.
