Kazakhstan is emerging as a new experimentation hub for blockchain-based financial infrastructure in the travel industry. AirAsia MOVE, Intebix, and the Solana Foundation have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore the integration of Evo (KTZE), a Tenge-denominated stablecoin, into AirAsia’s travel ecosystem.
The proposed initiative aims to test how stablecoins can be used for real-world travel payments, combining AirAsia MOVE’s global platform of over 17 million monthly active users with Intebix’s licensed digital asset infrastructure and Solana’s high-performance blockchain technology. The focus is not only on technical feasibility but also on regulatory alignment within Kazakhstan’s official regulatory sandbox.
The project is facilitated by AirAsia Next, the innovation and brand arm of Capital A, and will be conducted under the supervision of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This setup allows stakeholders to evaluate how blockchain-based payment systems can operate within a controlled regulatory environment, especially in the context of travel bookings and cross-border transactions.
If successful, the initiative could mark an important step toward mainstream adoption of stablecoins in the travel sector, potentially enabling faster, cheaper, and more seamless payment experiences for global travelers while providing regulators with real-world insights into digital asset usage.
Kazakhstan, already positioning itself as a regional leader in crypto regulation and sandbox innovation, may further strengthen its role as a bridge between traditional finance and Web3 infrastructure through this pilot.
