Christopher Nolan sets sail for South Korea with Matt Damon and Charlize Theron to launch ‘The Odyssey’

SEOUL, July 6 — Christopher Nolan will make his first official promotional visit to South Korea on August 3 to lead a star‑studded tour for his upcoming film The Odyssey.

Universal Pictures confirmed the trip, which will include actors Matt Damon and Charlize Theron, as part of a major push to capture the Asian box office, The Korea Times reported.

“I am deeply grateful for the support and love you’ve shown for my films,” Nolan wrote in a handwritten note to Korean audiences. 

“I’m especially delighted that Odyssey will bring me to Seoul and I’ll get to celebrate the film with Korean audiences in person.”

The director restructured his global promotional schedule to ensure time in Seoul, reflecting the country’s importance to his career.

Nolan’s films, including Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet and Oppenheimer, have drawn more than 36 million admissions in Korea, earning the market the nickname “Nolan’s country” among local exhibitors.

The promotional tour will feature a press conference, fan events and a red‑carpet premiere ahead of the film’s domestic release on August 5.

The Odyssey adapts Homer’s epic tale, following Odysseus (played by Damon) on his perilous journey home after the fall of Troy, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus.

The ensemble cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Zendaya and Lupita Nyong’o.

The trip marks Damon’s first return to Korea since Jason Bourne in 2016, while Theron will make her debut press visit to the country.
