KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — After 47 years in the Malaysian music industry, Datuk M. Nasir has once again proven that the work of a true maestro stands the test of time, with his songs continuing to resonate with his fans regardless of age.

His concert DATO’ M.N47IR CIPTA 4 at Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil here on Saturday — coinciding with his 69th birthday — attracted nearly 13,000 people.

As the arena lights dimmed, thunderous cheers from the audience welcomed the legendary singer to the stage.

He opened the night with Ekspres Rakyat, before launching into Hati Emas, Perjuangan and Aku Dah Bosan.

A medley featuring Sentuhan Kecundang, Sekuntum Bunga Sakura di Gurun Sahara, Azura and Milik Siapakah Gadis Ini reminded the audience of M. Nasir’s versatility.

Backed by an experienced band led by music director Aznan Alias, each song was given a fresh musical arrangement while preserving its original identity.

One of the night’s biggest highlights came when Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, who was also among the concert attendees, answered the audience’s call to join M. Nasir on stage.

The pair delivered Bagaikan Sakti, sending the arena into a frenzy as fans erupted in applause.

The nostalgic atmosphere continued with the arrival of Datuk Awie, who joined M. Nasir for a rendition of Ghazal Untuk Rabiah.

The rock icon later took centre stage with a solo performance of Istana Menanti.

Adding an international touch to the celebration, Indonesian singer-songwriter Melly Goeslaw joined M. Nasir for performances of Suatu Masa and Fantasia Bulan Madu, highlighting how his music has transcended national borders.

Before the excitement had a chance to settle, M. Nasir surprised the crowd once more by inviting Ziana Zain to perform Halaman Asmara, completing a star-studded lineup of some of Malaysia’s biggest music icons who came together to honour his extraordinary journey in the music industry.

As the concert drew to a close, Unifi Arena transformed into a sea of voices, with nearly every fan on their feet singing along to classics including Kembara, Apokalips and Raikan Cinta.

For the grand finale, M. Nasir performed Mentera Semerah Padi before stepping off the stage to meet fans up close.

Shaking hands and singing alongside the audience, he reaffirmed the deep bond between a legendary artiste and his fans who love his songs. — Bernama
