Egypt has awarded a contract to Spain’s Xcalibur smart mapping company for a landmark survey of its mineral wealth involving the deployment of drones.

The geophysical survey is the first of its kind in Egypt in nearly 42 years and it covers six potentially mineral rich regions including southern and northern parts of the Eastern Desert, Sinai, the northern and southern parts of the Western Desert, as well as the Bahariya and Abu Tartur oases in the New Valley.

Petroleum and mineral resources minister Karim Badawi oversaw the signing of the contract between the Spanish company and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) in Cairo on Sunday, according to a ministry statement.

Egypt’s Drone Tech will supply drones for the massive survey that is designed to accelerate the country’s mineral wealth and woo investors.

“This project represents the first comprehensive aerial survey of mining to be conducted in Egypt in 42 years… it will provide a modern and highly accurate database on mineral resources in Egypt, contributing to the development of attractive investment opportunities for investors in mineral exploration and prospecting,” Badawi said.

He added that the availability of this data will contribute to reducing the costs and risks of exploration and prospecting, thereby enhancing the confidence of national and international companies in investing in the mining sector.

Egypt aims to increase mining’s contribution to gross domestic product to nearly 6 percent, from less than 1 percent, the minister said in April.

In December last year, the ministry said there is a plan to launch Egypt’s first online mining portal that will give investors access to projects in the mining sector.

The online gateway, which has been planned for more than two years, will be officially launched during 2026, the ministry said, adding that the plan is within a package of incentives to investors and metal prospectors to undertake projects offered by the ministry in various areas.

The planned portal includes maps and data for investors seeking to start minerals projects. It will cover 27 metals, including gold, zinc and iron, the ministry said, adding that Egypt is rapidly becoming a key metal producer and exporter.

In 2023, Egypt’s metal production stood at about 13 million tonnes and exports exceeded 2.3 million tonnes, according to the ministry.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
