'Blustering' Trump rekindles mockery as he backs down in Iran: 'Taco Tuesday, baby!'

Political analysts and observers mocked President Donald Trump on Tuesday after he abruptly ended his new war initiative.

Trump announced on Truth Social that he was pausing "Project Freedom," an initiative launched on Sunday to guide the ships from "innocent and neutral" countries out of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said he implemented the plan after several countries reached out to him, and asked him to help prevent the Iranian regime from attacking their ships.

"Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed," Trump announced.

The move sparked swift mockery on social media.

"It's taco Tuesday, baby!" progressive influencer Hasan Piker posted on X.

"So we paused the operation we just launched because the other operation that stalled might progress diplomatically but Iran gets to keep blockading that led to the stalling in the first place. And the U.S. also gets to keep its blockade. Confused yet?" Joel Braunold, a contributing editor at Lawfare, posted on X.

"The quick check of how much bluster (or worse) is in a Trump post is to check how much is written in official-sounding legalese denoting nothing much in particular," journalist Jonathan Nicholson posted on X.
